Post-Industrial/Metal upstarts 5 R V L N 5 (Surveillance) release their maxi-single World of Filth, featuring remixes from top artists and producers with in the genre.
World of Filth is found on their debit album The Black Mark, which was released earlier this year to much acclaim by Decibel Magazine, Invisible Oranges, Post-Punk.com and other media outlets. The World of FIlth maxi-single serves as the perfect companion to their debut. The song gets the remix treatment by Industrial Metal icon Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu, Napalm Death) and Doom/Drone Metal artist/producer Sanford Parker (Corrections House, Eyehategod, Statiqbloom ) Both take the song to new disturbing and brutal realms with their touches. Founder/Songwriter Chuck Clybourne explains why they choose to focus on this song..
This song really relates back to a certain period in my life 2 or 3 years ago… Everything around me was in complete chaos and I was miserable just existing to the point, I wound up in a mental health facility due to severe depression. So, The song kind of comes from that time-period and headspace. I knew I wanted to make the gnarliest, most brutal sounding shit I could. I had a few rules. No guitars and no drummer. The entire song is just a drum machine, a synth or two, and my voice. Very simple, but effective. It was a cathartic experience to work through the process of writing this song, but If I had to go back to the headspace to get another one like this I’m not sure I’d want to. It’s fun to play live though! Haha!
